Auxiliary verbs

 

Kan (can/may/might/get/be able to)
“Kan” has different functions:
- expresses knowledge, ability or possibility:
  Jag kan tala svenska.
- giving a suggestion or offering something:
  Kan jag hjälpa dig?

Får (get/be allowed to/receive/may etc.)
“Få” has many different meanings. For example:
- express permission or allowance:
  Du får röka. (You are allowed to smoke.)
  Du får låna min bok. (You can borrow my book.)

Other common auxillary verbs
Vill (vilja) want
Brukar (bruka) usually (Note. Not a verb in English)
Måste (måste) have to, must
Behöver (behöva) need, require
Har (ha) have, have got
